Courtroom Usage and Optimization Study: Larimer County
Larimer County, Colorado, a fast-growing community with increasing complex demands on its justice system, previously conducted a master plan that projected a need for eight additional judges over 20 years with a need to expand its current space to provide for those judges. JMI along with TreanorHL, was hired to help rethink the master plan and space needs based on limited resources to expand the current space.
JMI and TreanorHL conducted a comprehensive study on the usage and optimization of the justice center including research on the current courtroom utilization, research on best practices in large courts, and evaluation of functional space needs. The study recommended six strategies to address growth and challenged the caseload projections of the original master plan. As a result of the project, the county commissioned a new master plan that was conducted by JMI and TreanorHL. That plan, the judicial system needs study included options for courthouse expansion and is being used to allow Larimer to map its future needs. In addition, El Paso County, Colorado, has commissioned JMI and TreanorHL to conduct a similar courthouse utilization study.
