Gabrielle Hillman
Program Analyst
Gabrielle joined JMI in 2022 as a Project Assistant. Before joining JMI, she worked in sentencing mitigation at a private mitigation firm and the Federal Defender Program in Chicago, Illinois. Gabrielle has experience working on various cases, including those in the Northern District of Illinois Federal Court and Cook County. Gabrielle graduated with a Master of Arts in Social Work and Welfare from the University of Chicago. While there, she was accepted into the Transforming Justice Policies and Practice Program of Study. Her studies focused on criminal legal related topics through a clinical social work lens. Gabrielle also has experience working as a Domestic Violence Legal Advocate with Metropolitan Family Services at the Cook County Domestic Violence Courthouse. There, Gabrielle supported victims of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault who were seeking judicial relief. She helped to provide legal advocacy and community resources to her clients and the broader survivor community in Chicago. Gabrielle completed her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from DePaul University. She had a focus in Law, Crime, and Criminology and minored in Peace, Social Justice, and Conflict Resolution studies. While at DePaul, she participated in the Inside-Out program in Cook County Jail, which focused on topics such as restorative justice and mass incarceration.
